Bonus #2: Small Side Table

I picked up a great dresser buffet yesterday (you could really argue it either way,
so I will call it a buffet, to keep my dresser count to a minimum),
that I can't wait to get started on! Stay tuned for that post.

When I was leaving her house ... I threw out the famous "you don't have any other furniture you are selling while I am here, do you?". She pondered that for a minute, and then said
"As a matter of fact, I have a little side table downstairs that I was going to get rid of,
are you interested?"
Heck yah! Let me see that puppy!

This was it. $20 is what she wanted.
Sold.

It was really cute the way it was, but I felt it needed a little bit of distressing. After a bit of time with the palm sander, this is what I had. Cute!

It was originally a side table I think, but what a perfect little table for tea parties.
And it just so happens I came across today, deep in a box,
an old tea set from when I was a little girl.

Mirror, Mirror ... on the wall

My favorite part of a kijii find ... is the other finds that sometimes come along with it! This week I have done a couple of pick-ups and had great luck! Two of the places I have stopped this week, I have taken a bonus item home ... who doesn't love a bonus?

Bonus item 1. Mirror. $5. Ugly. Plastic gold frame.
Remember: always look at the bones. This has a great shape, and great lines.

I waffled to try an atique white with a dark glaze in the nooks, but settled on a clean basic black. 5 minutes and a can of flat black spray paint. Voila!

C'mon people ... you can all do this!

Rustic Red

I cannot take credit for this re-newed piece.   My fondness of all things rustic comes from my Mom. One example is this salvaged top of an old upright cupboard she found that had been neglected for many years.  I don't have any pictures of its original condition.  It began its renewed life in my first apartment where it was adorned with a fresh coat of pale yellow paint as I started to develop my boho style.  It then moved outside to the back deck at the lake.   New siding on our cabin brought about a change in color schemes. It was updated with our red accent color and then given a distressed look with a bit of rough sanding.  Tin punched panels complete the aged look.  These panels were easily made by tracing a design onto pieces of sheet metal and using a nail and hammer to make the holes.  The renewed cabinet is ready to be loved for many more years to come!

Heads Up 7-Up

Do you remember that game from elementary school? Holding your head down on top of your desk, arm extended, thumb up, the smell of pencil lead and disinfectant ripe in your nose as it pressed into the desktop.

I stumbled upon this little guy on Kijiji and decided he would be mine. He brought back memories of Heads Up 7-Up, passing intricately folded notes back and forth with my girlfriends, and being scared to reach into the depths of my desk for fear of what I would find.

But he needed a little updating. I knew I wanted to use one of the fantastic new colours of Liquitex spray paint I had just picked up, but couldn't decide. My blogging sisters voted for the blue-green. {still looking for a use for the yellow, watch for that project soon!}

The top needed some work as there were a few gouges in it. A little wood filler and some sanding took care of that. I had some extra chalkboard paint laying around from another project, so that finished it off!

I am so happy with the results. It still reminds me of my elementary school days, but is so much cuter than any desk I ever hid notes in.

Unfortunately, there may not be room for this guy in my family. I have since picked up a couple of antique desks that I adore, and I'm running out of room. So I may need to find this guy a new home...hopefully with a little girl who can hide her own notes inside. Let's hope her mama finds him on Kijiji.
